3 blogs that you probably haven’t checked out (but should!)

Standard

The three blogs that I’ve stumbled upon and am considering to use for my next presentation are, Spin Sucks by Gini Dietrich, Betches Love this and Sushi With my Girls by anonymous.

Spin Sucks is an interesting blog that I came across by accident. It is a professional blog that focuses on PR and social media strategies, but Dietrich is very witty in her posts and conversational. She is all about the lists, such as, “Five Inappropriate Ways to Respond to Criticism” which is written by a ‘guest blogger’ and “Five Ways to Measure Social Media Efforts” . She keeps the lists short and sweet while capturing her audience’s intrigue.

Her post, “It’s Lonely at the Top” discusses an article that was run by Harvard Business Review that addresses the ‘loneliness’ that prominent CEO’s feel because they ‘have no one at their side.’ I found this discussion of the article to be very interesting because it’s hard to imagine anyone feeling sorry for someone making millions of dollars a year, but Dietrich takes the discussion into an unexpected turn.

Betches Love This is a blog that I have been following basically since it was started. The authors are unknown and it’s better off that way in my opinion. They post almost every day sometimes up to three times a day and the posts are always hysterically funny and easily related to if you are a 20 something college student (or in a sorority). The voice of the blog is mainly an extremely egotistical, spoiled, wealthy young woman. The post entitled, “88. The Stop and Chat” shows the humor and superficiality emited by this blog.

Sushi with My Girls is very similar to Betches Love This in the respect that it is also anonymous and written by very superficial females. I think the fact that it is so ignorant and superficial is what is entertaining to me and the list that they post is highly relatable if you are in a sorority or know girls in one.

As of now, I don’t know which blog to follow. They are each funny and interesting and I follow the last two on a regular basis. I’m thinking I may step out of my comfort zone and decide to do my presentation on Gini Dietrich’s Spin Sucks, but who knows, I’ve still got time to decide.

I am a New Yorker in a land filled with Patriots and Red Sox Fans, aka University of Massachusetts Amherst. I'm a junior studying Journalism and English, this blog is actually for my Intro to Multimedia course. I intern at the Media and News office on campus so aside from taking a full course load, that takes up most of my time. I've never blogged before so, here goes nothing....

  1. Hey Lauren! Thanks so much for talking about Spin Sucks here…and for calling me witty! I can’t wait to tell Mr. D that someone, other than me, thinks I’m funny! :)

If you decide to use Spin Sucks for your presentation and find you need some help, let me know. I’m happy to do anything I can!

One thing to note: Lists blog posts, for some reason, get more social shares than others. It’s very strange. So that’s why we do a lot of them.
